The Truth About Getting New Solar Jobs From The Internet

My ā€œmarketingā€ buddies are gonna hate me for this report.

But the industry needs a good ole’ kick up the backside.

I see too many short-staffed small and medium-sized Solar Pros struggling.

They are buying from Home Advisor, Angie’s List or Facebook.

Only to send their reps out on leads that are just "shopping" for the best price.

May as well take the hun-gee dollar note, and set it on fire. šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

Home Advisor might work for the big solar companies - if they have a slick sales operation that picks up the phone faster than ice cream melting in the mid-day sun.

But the smaller outfits continue to lose out to their bigger, faster competitors.

Which is why, I honestly don’t blame them for going back to the old trusted ways to generate biz without risk.

Like Yard Signs, or Door Knocking.

Low entry costs… high ROI.

But what are some cheap, dependable traffic sources that convert?

Youtube? Instagram? Facebook pages? TikTok?

You might be a lil’ bamboozled.

Now without being too braggadocious…

I have spent over $250,000 of my own money on Google Ads (and multiple 5 figures on Facebook & Instagram), with a high 7 figure net ROI.Ā

… or Facebook ads

… or your local chamber of commerce

If you are missing this one thing on your website, like almost every other Solar biz, 97.65% of the traffic you are paying for will be lost forever.

(Wordstream estimates the conversion rate of a website is 2.35%)

Why?

Because you aren’t giving them what they need.

Fix this one thing though, and the leads your website captures will double, maybe even triple without a single penny spent on extra traffic.

If you don’t fix it though, they are naturally going to leave, and go visit your competitor’s website.

OK, let's recap - the first thing you need to take care of:

… Customers need to know who you are and that you are good at what you do (i.e some testimonials and photos of your jobs)

The second thing:

… Explain what you do clearly - Do you do retail and commercial? Ground Mount Installs? Solar Farms? Powerwalls? Can you offer finance? Do you do modifications to current installs?

And the final piece of the puzzle is to give them a ______

The one thing you need to give, to double or even triple the number of leads from your website, without any extra ad spend is...

Your PRICE

Now before you start shouting at me…

ā€œScotty mate.... seriously, I can’t quote a job accurately without an inspection, and I certainly don’t want to be held to a PRICE by my customerā€

Your customers don't expect an accurate price, they only need a price range.

When you give them an option to get a price range, your website turns into a lead generation machine.

And guess what…

… the only way they can get a price range, is if they start giving you info like:

  • Is it a modification to a system or a whole new one?
  • The size and finish of the roof?
  • Off-grid or tied to the grid?
  • ​Do they want a battery?
  • ​If they want the job done now or later...

I just Googled a local Solar Installer in the Houston area - and came across ā€œTexas Solar Outfittersā€

They are probably paying for SEO help and their Google My Business listing is done well.

For the months of September and October 2022, the website had 415 and 391 unique visits per month respectively…

… which will be around 8 leads according to industry average stats.

Now let's take a peek at their site:

They tick two of the three boxes.

I can clearly see who they are (About Us)

I can clearly see what they do (Solar Services)

But they are missing the Price.

Lemme show you what they should do.

Is substantial.

We are talking about going from a 8 leads...

Now, I don’t know how good the sales guys are over at Texas Solar Outfitters…

… but I would be surprised if they didn't close an extra 4-5 installations per month from leads like this?

What about your Solar biz?
